Accessibility
FOR EVERYONE
We want anyone who visits santamariaburger.com to be able to use it.

Our commitment
Santa Maria Burgers is committed to making santamariaburger.com accessible to the widest possible audience, including people with disabilities. We aim to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA.
What we've done
- Semantic HTML: every page uses proper landmark elements (
<header>,<nav>,<main>,<footer>) and a logical heading hierarchy. - Skip-to-content link: a keyboard-accessible "Skip to main content" link is the first focusable element on every page.
- Keyboard navigation: the entire site is operable with a keyboard. Focus indicators use a high-contrast dark red outline, and a white inset outline on the red-filled buttons where a dark ring would not show.
- Mobile menu: traps focus while open, closes on Escape, and is announced as a dialog to assistive technology.
- Reduced motion: respects the
prefers-reduced-motionmedia query and disables decorative animations for users who request it. - Color contrast: body text, links, and interactive controls meet the WCAG AA 4.5:1 contrast minimum against our white page background, and control boundaries meet the 3:1 minimum.
- Alt text: meaningful images have descriptive alt attributes; decorative images use
aria-hiddenor empty alt. - Form labels: every form field has its own
<label>, visible next to the field on the contact form and in the footer sign-up. Required fields announce their required state to screen readers, and validation errors are written beside the field that caused them. - Status messages: each form has a single
role="status"region witharia-live="polite", so screen-reader users hear both validation errors and the result of sending.
